SAINTS SIGN EXPERIENCED RIGHT SIDED DEFENDER DARION FURLONG

St Albans City FC is delighted to announce the signing of former Cheshunt captain and right-sided defender Darion Furlong ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The 26-year-old is the seventh summer signing to join the Saints, as Gary McCann’s side begins to take shape nicely ahead of the new campaign.

Furlong started his career in 2019 with Leverstock Green, where he learned his trade before making the move to Potters Bar Town in 2020/21. He then joined local side Hitchin Town in the summer of 2021 before moving to Ware FC for the 2023/24 season and Cheshunt a year later.

Known for his strength and composure at the back, Darion joins Saints having spent last season as captain of the Ambers.

The son of former professional Paul Furlong and brother of Darnell Furlong, who currently plays for Ipswich Town, Darion arrives with footballing pedigree aplenty.

Discussing his move to the Saints, the centre-back reflected fondly on memories of visiting Clarence Park as a youngster:

“My dad moved to St Albans towards the end of my career, so I used to come with him every Saturday.”

He also recalled the privilege of being able to go into the changing rooms and explore behind the scenes, describing Clarence Park as a “nice stadium” from his visits when he was younger.

The full circle move now brings his journey back to a club he has long admired.

“To play for the Saints is a privilege now,” he said. “St Albans are a good club, big club; let’s get this going.”

Welcome to St Albans City, Darion Furlong.
