Youth win through in thriller

FA Youth Cup Preliminary Round

St Albans City 4 – 2 Hayes & Yeading  United

St.Albans City youngsters swept to an ultimately emphatic victory over a hard working and skilful Hayes team. City deservedly led by a single  Jake  Anthony strike at the break but were immediately pegged back  after the restart following a poor clearance. Hayes began to take control and looked the more likely to score again before fine work on the right by Swailes followed by a blistering shot which the keeper could only parry into the path of Anthony who netted from close range. Hayes attacked with even more venom after this setback but the Saints rearguard  led by the impressive Callum Lee held firm. City went further ahead after good play by Swales sent Anthony through the middle of an exposed defence and the centre forward completed his hat-trick in style with a twenty-five yard shot. Swales deservedly got his name on the score sheet with a right foot shot six minutes from time. Hayes pulled one back in the dying moments.

Both teams deserve high praise for providing the spectators with a thoroughly entertaining encounter played in a good spirit. City will face Tring in the next round at Clarence Park.
