A crazy game from start to finish but the under 15s achieved their first league win of the season at the weekend.
Both teams started brightly and tried to get the ball down and play football. However, it wasn’t long before City took the lead.
A superb pass from Jamie Roper released Waterberg who managed to get to the ball before the keeper. His initial touch took him to the left and towards the by-line where he managed to steady himself and strike the ball into the back of the net. 1-0 to city. Soon after and the young Saints went 2-0 ahead they hit Ware on the break, resulting in a goal mouth scramble that allowed Beardon to stab the ball home.
City were now growing in confidence and every attack looked like they would score and it wasn’t long before they got another goal. Breen latched onto a pass from Waterberg and he struck a beautiful shot that rocketed into the roof of the net. The Saints were now 3-0 ahead and cruising.
However, out of the blue, Ware pulled a goal back through ex-City player Shaw and then, within a few minutes of his first of the game, he managed to get another to give the Saints a slender half-time lead (3-2).
City got off to the worst possible start to the second half. Confusion in side when defending a corner led to Ware scrambling an equaliser.
Not to be outdone or let their heads drop, City went immediately on the attack and were rewarded with what turned out to be the winner – and another goal from Waterberg.
The remainder of the game continued in the same fashion as both teams went on the attach in attempt to add to the goal tally – but that was the end of the goals.
A first City win in the league with much to build upon.
