St Albans City left it late as they scored twice in added time to pick up an important win.
It was the visiting Bluebirds who started the brighter and struck the woodwork 48 seconds in when Jake Jackson’s glancing header hit the bar.
Saints stopper Dean Snedker continued to be the busier of the two goalkeepers, denying Kaid Mohamed before making a full stretch save to keep out a venomous Jackson drive.
St Albans almost took the lead late in the first half but Sam Merson’s header from a corner was cleared off the line.
Rhys Murrell-Williamson was next to go close for City but his powerful striker was well saved by Jared Thompson.
With the game entering added time, a reckless challenge by Matt Smith on Kieran Monlouis gave the hosts a chance to win it from the spot.
Sub Zane Banton stepped up and calmly slotted the penalty into the bottom right corner.
The hosts made sure less than 90 seconds later when sub Antonio German received the ball on the halfway line and spread it to Murrell-Williamson, who cut into the box and struck a rasping drive past Thompson.
