The Saints fell to a 2-1 home defeat against an in-form Welling United side on Saturday afternoon.
The Saints started the game well but were unable to finish a number of good chances created in the opening half and just before half-time they were left to rue those misses as Bradley Goldberg fed in the impressive Joe Healy who calmly fired a shot past Dean Snedker into the far corner of the goal.
Welling dominated the opening 20 minutes of the second half and went further ahead in the 67th minute when subsitute Eli Phipps played in Jack Jebb who found himself clear of pursuing defenders and rolled a shot past Snedker into the net.
The goal seemed to awake the Saints and Rhys Murrell-Williamson in particular started to cause plenty of problems down the right flank but unfortunately found Welling United’s loan keeper Dillon Barnes in fantastic form as he made two smart saves from Rhys. Barnes also kept out a Tom Bender header but was finally beaten in the 92nd minute when Sam Merson floated a ball across the six yard box for Nathaniel Pinney to head home and open his goal-scoring account for the Saints. However, the goal proved to be a late consolation as the Saints ran out of time to find an equaliser.
The Saints are next in action on Saturday 11th November 2017 when they visit Chippenham Town. Kick off 3.00pm.
