A former player of the St Albans City Disability team, John “Whippet” Webster, recently passed away unexpectedly.
John “Whippet” Webster played for the Disability team for 8 years across two spells, attended many St Albans City matches and was a very passionate fan of the club and football in general.
Last year he relocated to Manchester to live with his girlfriend and his presence was missed at matches and in training sessions. Despite moving away, “Whippet” remained in regular contact with the coaches and players for updates on how the team were playing and performing.
The team’s coach, Liam O’Dwyer, explains:
To say Whippet was a character would be an understatement. Despite his small stature he had a larger than life character, good nature, very funny sense of humor and loud persona which he expressed through having more haircuts than David Beckham. A utility player who played in every position, he was a leader on and off the pitch and our players looked up to him and he was the life and soul of the team.
Due to his financial status, he had little money so we are looking to help fund raise for his funeral. Donations can be made using the following JustGiving page: https://www.gofundme.com/john-webster-die-of-meningitis?fbclid=IwAR1mYkYx8E266u-URYmMOG5JgDxKzdZGD8r3mCe_EZUERVplu5PxXmZu3XI
