The Saints ended a run of 3 league defeats with an entertaining 3-3 draw away at Chippenham Town on Saturday afternoon.
Chippenham Town went a goal up after just 6 minutes when a long throw was flicked on by Will Richards and Alex Feguson headed firmly past Snedker. The Chippenham forward line played a pressing game and was giving the Saints defence little time on the ball but the Saints started to adapt and Pinney worked hard to hold the ball up to allow the midfield to support the forwards. In the 19th minute, Pinney and Merson combined well and moved the ball back to Zane Banton who found space on the edge of the penalty area to fire in a shot that beat the despairing dive of Jared Thompson and hit the back of the net to level the score.
The Saints looked to be growing into the game and a good run by Banton led to an opening for Murrell-Williamson but his shot was charged down by a Chippenham defender. However, another set piece in the 32nd minute saw the Saints fall behind again. A Twine corner found Richards at the far post and he powered home a header to put his side 2-1 ahead.
The second half saw the Saints play with a renewed purpose and in the 66th minute a Layne Eadie corner was met by Tom Bender who headed the ball back across the goal past Thompson and into the net. However, the Saints hard work was undone within a minute when another Twine corner resulted in the ball falling to Chippenham’s Ferguson who slotted the ball past Snedker to put Chippenham 3-2 ahead.
Chippenham pressed for a while to get another goal but the Saints again renewed their efforts and Noble and Sambou had shots from the edge of the area that were very close to the target but in the 78th minute Rhys Murrell-Williamson collected the ball and from 30 yards hits a wonder strike that flew into the roof the net to equalise the scores for the 3rd and final time in the game.
The Saints are next in action on Saturday 18th November 2017 when we welcome Bognor Regis Town to Clarence Park. Kick off 3.00pm.
