The Under 15s were involved in a hugely competitive match at the weekend against Bishops Stortford. The two teams gave everything in pursuit of victory in a game that was ultimately decided by fine margins.
The first 15-20 minutes of the game largely consisted of a midfield battle that both teams were completely committed to. Chances for each side were few and far between and it always looked like the score line would be close.
After about 25 mins, City started to create opportunities by going down the flanks, causing panic amongst the Stortford defence.
However, a long ball found Stortford’s centre forward who put his side 1-0 ahead with a fantastic finish.
City recovered well and kept on creating opportunities through strong pressing and gaining possession in the final third of the pitch. Joseph Beardon came close to levelling the scores with a driven shot that the keeper spilled – only to recover the ball on the goal line.
With just 30 seconds left before half time, Stortford got their second goal. A cross from the right found a Stortford player at the far post and he found the back of the net.
The second half carried on from the first with both teams cancelling each other out and with very few chances being created.
This pattern continued until the last 20 mins when City began to create goal scoring chances from dead ball situations. On another day, the Saints could and probably should have had scored 2 or 3 goals. Unfortunately it wasn’t our day.
