In 28 degree heat, the City Under 15s delivered a superb performance from start to finish to progress in the EJA cup.
City put the pressure on their opponents from the start, confident in possession and pressing when without the ball.
It wasn’t long before the Barking defence buckled under the pressure – and Waterberg was brought down in the box resulting in a spot kick. Eames-Illingworth confidently struck the ball into the bottom right corner to give City the lead.
City stepped up the pace of the game and moved the ball around with ease – and soon added to the score. The goal came after a fine strike from Roper struck the bar, rebounded and Breen followed up to make it 2-0 to City.
Barking did get a goal back when their number 11 hit an unstoppable shot into the City net. However, this only provoked further goals from City, with Machen and Breen adding two more goals to give City a 4-1 lead at half-time.
The second half saw the Saints start in the same manner that they finished the first and City were soon asking questions of the Barking defence. Once again a foul was committed in the area and a penalty awarded to City.
Eames-Illingworth had to wait a few minutes but kept his nerve, sent the keeper the wrong way and placed it in the corner.
Breen made it 6-1, completing his hat trick with another header. It seemed like every attack was going to result in a goal.
The seventh was a great reward for Freestone who laid the ball off cleverly from a throw, span and ran on to a wonderful cross from Berry to head home a glorious goal.
A very pleasing performance all round as the Under 15s progress into the next round of the EJA cup.
